Words from the Retard 09-03-09

Its only Monday and I’m already writing my next words from the retard, why my unusually premature memoir? Because I’m still burdened by disappointment. We are definitely getting closer, the gap has shortened between Hearts and PB, think back and not so long ago we got turned over with 11 goals, right now though I still can’t help feeling disappointed, I genuinely believed we could have got something out of the game. It’s a shame it all got a little petulant at the end, there will obviously be a tempered attitude, you can’t avoid that with a game where so much is at stake but certain individuals can make a whole team look bad.

When a small minority of England fans kick off whilst supporting our nation abroad, do they highlight those people? No the whole nation’s reputation becomes tarnished and this unfortunately was the case on Saturday for me. One or two people bringing down a team which on the whole are a decent bunch. I’ll hold my hands up, I say some pretty stupid things on a pitch, if you can gain a competitive advantage by intimidating a player with the odd remark or action I will but I will also be the first person to walk up and shake hands after the game. Fair play to Micki Williams who came up to me after the game and shook hands, he got quite heated on the pitch and did some rash things but like I said, I do it too and by shaking hands it shows a certain element of respect for your opponents so credit where its due.

What is unacceptable though was people saying things like “you're shit” with reference to Potblack. That just shows a lack of intelligence, we’re not shit, shit teams don’t sit in second place coming into a game like this, 15 games into a season. Superior finishing was the difference, on the day we lacked a killer instinct in front of goal. I think we matched up pretty well in every other aspect of the game and I’m fairly sure the two games we have played against Hearts will be two of the most competitive games they will have all season. A lot of teams who come in two down at half time will end up loosing 6 or 7 nil so to say, “you're shit” is just ludicrous and does nothing to endear you towards them. I know for a fact a few choice words where shared by a few individuals in our team during and after the game. It’s by no means an explanation or excuse but you have to expect that. Hearts have won pretty much everything in the last three years and people will want to beat them so when you loose your immensely disappointed and frustrating and what happens in these kind of situations is it manifests itself into rage and you say stupid things whilst your intoxicated by rage.

With the benefit of hindsight you perhaps see it in a different light. A lot has been made of Mr Beech and his trusted flag, I’m not going to jump on the bandwagon I missed the first game due to work commitments and was no where near in line with any of his decisions Saturday so it’s not fair if I say anything to his detriment. What I will say and this is based on fact is that a lot of people, not just PB are uncomfortable with a manager using the flag for their team, Danny doesn’t do it despite being a qualified referee. If taking grief bothers you that much, delegate it, I sure as hell would. I appreciate that someone has to do it but give it to someone else and save yourself the flack. I can just see Alex Ferguson running the line at Old Trafford, he’d be completely impartial and none bias I’m sure, if he was sober that is.

I’m aware I’ve gone on about this a little more than I perhaps should, this isn’t a place to come and rant about individuals or show bitter resent towards teams, in my eyes we were beaten fair and square, my main gripe is that if I was involved in a team where we won everything, ok I’d be like a dog with two dicks and possibly gloat (a little) but I would also make sure that no one in my team shows a lack of respect for who we beat, be it one nil or ten nil. If they did I’d make sure it’s stamped out.

No one is bigger than our club and if they are they don’t fit in and that’s the reason why we are respected by a lot of teams. You might argue that’s a load of shit but a lot of people outside of PB wanted us to win Saturday, the comments on here prove before and after the game prove that.

Ok enough about what’s gone, what’s important now is that we focus on bouncing back and seeing our way through to the Semi final of the league cup. Unless Hearts lose their remaining fixtures the title is out of reach so rather than worrying about who did what and who said what our main focus of attention is beating Blundeston Magpies this Saturday. It’s an added incentive knowing that those who make the final will probably face Hearts so let’s get to the final where we will have three impartial officials and can’t complain about decisions which influence a game!
