Wenhaston 'Res'- 1
Pot Black FC- 2
Match Overview- With training thus far this season proving to be a hit and miss affair it was no surprise when numbers for the first pre-season friendly of the summer were slightly more impressive.
With six regulars unavailable for numerous reasons (Captain Darren Boyd, Gary Boyd, Paul Taylor, Scotty Reynolds, Simon Durrant and Gav Hunt) Pot Black were still pleased to be able to have four players on the bench at kick-off with new faces Ben Le Compte and 'sort of new face' Keith Doddington in the match day squad.
The first 10 minutes were frantic but entertaining for the neutral as the end to end football proved pleasing to the eyes of a large crowd by local football standards, although as L'Orange started to play the ball around it left the home side the difficult challenge of chasing down the ball in difficult conditions.
Ben Le Compte went very close to making a dream debut when he smashed a Max Wall lay off goal bound only to see his missile like effort clip a Wenhaston player and out for a corner.
Pot Black took the lead before the break when a pin point Steven Foulkes free kick picked out Adam Bird at the back post who saw his header saved before pouncing on the parry as he volleyed the ball home tweaking his bum cheek in the process before limping of like 'Douglas Bader' to receive treatment.
In the second half Keith Doddington pleased his team mates, marking his return as he beat the offside trap before out witting the keeper and firing home, grasping his chance up front while Adam Bird had his anoose manipulated on the touch line.
Wenhaston gained momentum as the game went on, as the temperature took its toll on one or two of the men in Orange and they struck back following a deep cross from the left which was met with force by 'The Greens' hit man who snuck past full back Neil Banks while he was emptying his catheter, as the powerful header flew into the net.
Although the funniest thing to happen on the day was when Ross Molby-Jones and Darren Laws found themselves charging down the opposition keeper who promptly crapped himself at a sight that can only be compared to 'The Pamplona Bull Run' as he closed his eyes and preyed to jesus, as the ball some how bobbled between the two big fella's hitting shins, hands and general flesh before the ref interrupted Jonesy's 'Truffle Shuffle' goal celebration to his disappointment awarding the handball. The lord works in mysterious ways!
All in all it was a great run out for both sides and played in the correct manner by both teams. As it is incredibly difficult nee impossible to arrange friendlies in July, we would like to say a special thank you to our friends at Wenhaston Football Club for the opportunity once again and wish them all the best for the coming season.
Goals- Adam Bird & Keith Doddington.
G.H. Windows & Doors M.O.M- Steven Foulkes (pictured above), produced an accomplished and cool performance at left back as he never put a foot wrong.
