Sweet & Sour

Lowestoft & District Division 1- 29/04/09

Norton Athletic- 0

Pot Black F.C- 4

Match Overview- Pot Black arrived at Norton expecting a real a real blood and thunder match against the 3rd placed men in yellow, keen to prove a point over the side that pipped them to the post and also delt them a 5-1 mauling before Christmas.

Yet to the disappointment of a fired up L'Orange, the weakened side that met them prior to Referee Kevin Batty's whistle was an unfamiliar mix of regulars and reserves.

Minus several players Pot Black still looked a force to be reckoned with as the first ten minutes, played out like a footballing mis-match as the visitors, tore the Norton back line to shreds with every attack, but unbelievably only found the net once when Adam Bird burst through before forcing his shot under the keeper.

With L'Orange looking irresistible on every attack, they became unusually carefree to their defensive duties, and the home side strung together a handful of chances which they also were unable to capitalise on.

The second half was a more familiar P.B style performance as the midfield began letting the ball do the work rather looking for the killer ball and going hell for leather in attack. Adam Bird doubled his tally for the night, taking his goals past Norton for the season to 7 a feat not many players will of achieved over the years.

L'Orange sub Max Wall was first to react to a long Richie Reeder throw as he dummy'd and swiveled through the box before finding the ball into bottom corner to kill off any Norton reprise.

To their credit Norton were still fighting hard and committing forward, before a big kick from Keeper Kev Sherwood travelled nearly the length of the pitch as Adam Bird firstly overpowered the defender in a game of shoulder to shoulder argy-bargy before beating the Keeper in a game of chicken as he tapped the ball into the path of Richi Reeder (pictured left) who smashed the ball home to the delight of all his team mates who were willing the ball into the net, as he notched his first for the club.

In fairness the visitors we're well aware they could of faced a much stronger Norton side, a point which left the men in Orange bitterly disappointed that they did not get a chance to pit their wits against their stars, but to the credit of the home side the players coming in never gave up in a match in which their was nothing to play for.

Two years ago Pot Black travelled to Norton for an evening match with a weakened side and were rightfully taken to pieces by the men in yellow but in victory they we're extremely gracious and humble something other teams in the league are unable to neither understand or conduct... But we remember that and we appreciate it, but most importantly we look forward to meeting next season.

Goals- Max Wall, Richi Reeder & Adam Bird x2

G.H. Windows & Doors M.O.M- Adam Bird, battled hard and finally broke his drought. Well Done!
