Back in the Hunt!

Lowestoft & District League Match 14-02-09

Spexhall F.C- 0

Pot Black F.C- 2

Match Overview- Following two victories in league and cup despite rather poor performances, the visitors knew that a strong, in-form Spexhall side would be a stern challenge should they fail to raise their game. Gav Hunt, Adam Bird and Darren Laws returned to the starting line up as manager Danny McKinley bolstered up on powerful players in light of their physical opposition.

The home side looked every bit the side that has been enjoying an excellent run of results of late as the make a delayed charge up the league table, although L'Orange looked more like the side that out battled many a team this season as, Bird and Hunt occupied the Spexhall back line as Cooper and Terry found the wide pitch to their liking.

The first goal came after good work down the right from Terry, Hunt and Taylor drew a corner which Max Wall dispatched with venom as the Keeper failed to deal with as the granite-like Darren Laws poked home with his left foot.

This body blow left Spexhall shaken, and with P.B now realising that failure to accept defeat in recent weeks, was now materialising into a performance to be proud of as, neat football by the boys in orange, saw the ball fall to the feet of Gavin Hunt who let fly with an effort that nearly ripped the net out the top corner of the goal.

All credit to Spexhall who entered the second half as if it was 0-0, leaving Kev Sherwood and the back line of Rose, Laws, D.Boyd and most notably Gary Boyd to come to the sides rescue on several occasions.

Sterry, Wardrope and Scott Reynolds all entered the action and immediately replicated the outstanding performances of their team mates, as they left no doubts in the minds of the spectators that Pot Black are a quality outfit.

The victory is made even sweeter by the the fact we had to fight tooth and nail, against a strong and tricky Spexhall side who should arguably be higher up the league.

Goals- Darren Laws & Gav Hunt
