Kirkley & Pakefield 'A'- 1
Pot Black F.C.- 2
Match Overview- Pot Black entered this match as the side in form after Kirkley slipped to two defeats on the bounce to Hearts and Magpies respectively. Although to the credit of Shaun Norman's side, they came out of the traps like greyhounds, as they looked to use their Superior pace to full effect.
Unfortunately for L'Orange they were dealt an early blow as star man of late Max Wall had to be substituted early doors after picking up an injury in the warm up, that he was unable to shake off, although he was on the pitch long enough to see his captain Darren 'Silverback' Boyd score a goal that will live long in the memory as he volleyed home a sensational effort after a poorly cleared corner, to the shock of the home side and the delight of the P.B faithful.
With confidence boosted by the goal and Jordan Wardrope entering the action for P.B to do battle against his younger brother Keiron (A Pot Black Sunday Starlet). L'Orange found that on top of the eleven players in blue & claret playing out of their skins, the visitors also found that the referee at times was rather keen to speak to our players rather than theirs with Rosey, Hotty and Birdy all receiving cautions and free kicks given at will.
K&P struck back during the first half with a quick breaking move down the left which resulted in P.B chasing shadows and Kev Sherwood helpless as the ball rippled the net.
Pot Black now had a dilemma during the interval with Jordan Wardrope now picking up a knock and Danny Rose feeling under the weather as changes would shortly have to be made. Last week's hero Anthony Ogogo came in for Jordan and Vinny Terry making his Pot Black debut went in at right wing as Sterry dropped in for the subbed Danny Rose.
No sooner had the changes been made but the visitors were distraught to see Scotty 'Too Hotty' Reynolds rolling in agony with what looks like a potential calf tear, as they found themselves down to 10 men with 30minutes left to play.
With P.B now forced into a 4-4-1 formation, they arguably had their best spell of football, as when backed into a corner, who better to come out fighting than Anthony Ogogo as his energy and determination personified L'Orange's grit.
With only a few minutes left on the clock the Wilie old fox Paul Taylor drew a free kick deep in the Kirkley half, which Gary Boyd delivered perfectly onto the head of Adam Bird who flicked onto Vinny Terry who with lots left to do, spun on a six pence to fired home to the exhilaration of his new team mates as he was mobbed by players and fans alike.
With the final whistle blown, we are well aware that the home side will feel robbed, but when down to ten men with half an hour left to play, did they do enough? I don't think so, a draw would have been justice. Their young side were exceptional on the day and we were under par, but we will gladly take the three points which mean we lift to our highest ever league position of 2nd. Well done lads I hope you're as proud as I am!!!
Goals- Darren Boyd & Vinny Terry
G.H Windows & Doors M.O.M- Anthony Ogogo only on the pitch for 40 minutes, but for the second week on the trot he changed the game.
