*5 Star* Bird

League Div 1- 25/10/08
Pot Black F.C- 5
Norton Athletic- 1
Match Overview- With L'Orange feeling deflated following several disappointing results whilst manager Danny McKinley was in Africa, Pot Black's general attitude and commitment was extremely positive following a pre-match pep talk.
League contenders Norton were unfortunately missing a few players, but were by no means a weak side, with all their regular danger men on display.
With powerful striker Gav Hunt missing last week and returning on the bench this week, the impressive Scott Reynolds was given a start in the front line along side Adam Bird (pictured left), and was the man who nearly broke the deadlock as his 1 on 1 was blocked by the colossal keeper in the 1st minute, and it was a repeat of this run that gave the home side the lead when he unselfishly squared for Bird to find an empty net.
The lead was furthered shortly after when Bird this time broke through smashing home with his weaker left foot leaving Norton in shock, but that was short lived as P.B contentment turned to casualness as a lovely move from the men in yellow bulged the net.
Referee Micky Leeds gave L'Orange's Scotty 'Too Hotty' Reynolds the opportunity to get his first of the season after he judged the Norton defender to of fouled him in the box, in what appeared to be a clumsy but fair challenge, but the big keeper saved a tame effort from P.B's Number 10.
But once again it was Bird who added to his tally before the break after good work from Tantony and Jones saw the white hot striker place the ball into the top corner, and showing extreme confidence he so nearly topped the lot by back healing a corner on to the cross bar.
After the break Bird finished the job with two superb chips leaving the helpless keeper in no mans land on both occasions, and thought he had his chance for a double hat-trick when he was clearly scythed down in the box, which was ignored by the ref who with in 30 seconds had given one at the other end correctly but for a lesser infringement. Although Justice was served when Kev 'Hollywood' Sherwood's double save kept his side focused on there own performance.
All in all an absolutely fantastic days work... Obviously Birdy stole the headlines (deservedly so..) but Ross Jones was outstanding in midfield, Max Wall was tireless, and Gary Boyd never put a foot wrong, against a very dangerous side who, even at 5-1 down never stopped fighting and working, this aside they will clearly be there or there abouts come the end of season.
Special praise must go to Danny Rose for his fantastic attitude this week after missing out as 4th Sub, truly an example to us all, as his unselfish display shows real commitment to team work and team spirit. Well Done.
